Mysore Diaries

Day1:
1. Venugopala Swamy Temple:
We first visited the Venugopala swamy temple at Hosa Kannambadi, Mandya dist. From the first look, I understood that the temple design is based on the typical Hoysala architecture. But the walls and stones looked very neatly polished. I could not see the old ancient look on the temple. It looked like a renovated temple.

After goggling I've understood that this temple was originally located at Kannambadi, 1km towards the Krishna Raja Sagara dam. It was submerged, when the KRS dam was conceived in 1909. The present day temple is relocated and renovated to Hosa Kannambadi.
Photography was strictly prohibited, may be because it was not yet inaugurated officially. But I've managed to get some pics using my mobile:

2. Brindhavan Gardens:
Then we reached Brindhavan Gardens which is some 10kms from Venugopala swamy temple. The Architecture of the garden is very beautiful and symmetric, We had a very good time enjoying with our friends. We also took many photos of the flora.

Also there is a children park, where we all enjoyed rides on the Swing.

3. Night view of the Maharaja Palace:
We've started late to get a view of the Maharaja palace in the evening. As we were late, we could only manage to get a last minute view from the gate entrance.

Below is a beautiful pic. borrowed from Wikipedia:

Day2:
1. Chamundeswari Temple:
We wanted to start at least by 6:30 AM from our accommodation, but we were late by 1hr.
Chamundi hills is some 10kms from Mysore. Since its a Sunday, there is a huge crowd at the temple.

While walking towards the entrance of the temple i saw a fierce statue with a big moustache and a weapon in his hand. From my Tamilnadu experience at first I felt it could be an Ayyanar statue (Who protects villages from external threats), But later I came to know that it's the Statue of Mahishasura who was killed by Goddess Chamundeswari.

2. Nandi Temple:
While descending from the hill temple, we've visited the Nandi temple.
It is a huge statue carved out on a single granite stone. The Nandi looked very gorgeous and elegant.

I've bought some tiny metal sculptures near the Nandi temple.

3. Mysore Palace:
Now we've started to the Maharaja palace.
The Mysore Maharaja Palace is a magnificent structure build by the Wodeyars.
From the first Looks of the palace, I could clearly feel the blend of various architectural styles.
As it was a Sunday, there is a heavy rush at the palace. We have also visited the couple of temples near the palace.

The best way to know the beauty of the palace is to go and get a glimpse of it.

4. Sri Ranganathaswamy temple, Sri Rangapatna:
After Lunch, we had started to Bangalore to catch our train.
On the way, at sri rangapatna we have visited the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple.
here the lord Vasudeva is seen in the form of Ananthasayana resting over Adisesha.

It took approximately 4 hrs to reach Yaswanthpur Railway station. Our train Sampark Kranthi was ready for departure at 10:00 PM for Kachiguda.
