Long, long ago, in a little green garden, all the vegetables were good friends.
Tomato, Potato, Beetroot, Brinjal, and Onion — they lived happily together,
playing under the sunshine and drinking the morning dew.
One day, the cook came to the garden with a big
basket.
She smiled and said, “Today I’ll make a tasty vegetable curry!”
First, she picked up Tomato.
Slice! Slice! went the knife.
All the other vegetables began to cry.
“Oh, poor Tomato! She was so soft and sweet!” said Potato.
“Why did it have to be her?” sobbed Brinjal.
Next came Beetroot’s
turn.
Slice! Slice!
“Oh no! Beetroot was so kind and bright!” they cried again.
Their tears rolled down their skins.
Then came Potato,
and again everyone cried.
After that, Brinjal was cut, and
more tears flowed.
Finally, it was Onion’s turn.
She looked around and realized something — there was no one left to cry for her!
All her friends were gone into the curry pot.
Onion felt very sad.
She folded her little green hands and prayed,
“Oh dear God, there is no one to cry for me. Please, please let someone shed a
tear for me too!”
God smiled kindly and said,
“Oh sweet Onion, don’t be sad. From now on, whenever you get sliced, you will
make everyone who cuts you cry!”
And from that day on, whenever someone cuts an
onion, tears roll down their cheeks
— not from sadness, but from Onion’s special blessing from God.
Moral of the Story:
Even when we feel left out or forgotten, God has a
special gift waiting for each of us.
