Once upon a time, in a quiet little village, there lived a boy named Abhiram. After school, he often played with his friends in the evening. One day, before running off, his mother gave him two ripe bananas. Abhiram tucked them carefully into his pocket.
Near his house stood a small mountain, on top of which rested a mysterious old temple of Lord Shiva. A steep flight of stone steps led to it, but climbing them was said to be very difficult.
That evening, Abhiram challenged his friends:
“Today, I will climb all the way to the temple!”
With excitement, he began his climb. At first, he moved quickly, but soon, as he reached one-fourth of the way, his legs began to ache. The sun was setting, shadows stretched across the mountain, and his body grew heavy with tiredness.
The steps reminded him of life itself—the higher we try to go, the harder the path becomes.
Hungry, he pulled out the bananas his mother had given him. Just then, from the darkness, an old beggar appeared.
“My child,” the man said, “I am starving. Could you spare me something to eat?”
Abhiram' s stomach rumbled. He was very hungry himself. But without a second thought, he handed over both bananas. The beggar blessed him and disappeared into the night.
Abhiram realized that in life too, we must learn to share and help others, even when we have little for ourselves. True strength lies in kindness.
Strengthened by that thought, he climbed higher. At halfway, he heard strange whispers from the trees. Fear gripped his heart, but he pressed forward with courage, step by step, until finally, he reached the temple.
He understood then that the voices of fear are like the doubts in our mind—if we keep walking with courage, they lose their power.
Inside, the temple was silent, glowing with oil lamps. He prayed lord Shiva with devotion. Plates of fruits, offered as prasadam, lay before Lord Shiva’s idol. Grateful, Abhiram ate a few, which eased his hunger.
In that moment, he realized: when we finally reach the Almighty, He provides what we need, far more than what we gave up along the way.
Suddenly, outside the temple, a magnificent white horse with wings appeared. Its eyes sparkled, and its mane glowed like silver in the moonlight.
“Come, Abhiram,” the horse said, “I will take you home.”
Awestruck, Abhiram climbed onto its back. The horse soared into the night sky, carrying him gently across the village, before everything faded into a blur.
The next morning, Abhiram' s mother shook him awake. “It’s time for school!” she said. Abhiram sat up, wondering if it had all been just a dream. But when he stepped outside, he noticed something on the muddy ground—the fresh hoofprints of a horse leading away from his home.
He smiled, realizing the truth: life’s journey is like the climb to the temple—full of struggle, hunger, fear, and sacrifice. But if we walk the difficult path with kindness and courage, the Almighty reveals Himself at the end, and we are carried home in His grace.
